What are knee wraps used for?

Knee wraps when used for weight training are a bit like a weight lifting belt for the knees. They are made from heavy duty elasticated fabric which can be pulled up tight and wrapped around the top and bottom of the knee to protect the knee while affording enough give to allow a good range of motion in the exercise.
